	Bazm-e-Sukhan Arizona’s grand mushaera

PHOENIX, AZ: Bazm-e-Sukhan Arizona held a grand mushaera on March 2, 2002that attracted poets from across the US. President of Urdu Academy North America, Mr. Zaheer Tashie chaired the poetical evening while Mr. Mazhar Siddiqi was master of the ceremony. 2-Tashie

Guest poets included Prof. N.M. Danish from New York, Mr. Arif Imam, Ms. Asifa Nishat, Mr. Tabish Khanzada and Mr. Farrukh Abbas from Los Angeles and Mr. Zaheer Tashie and Mr. Fayyazuddin Sahib from San Francisco.

The mushaera was dedicated to the late Mrs. Malika Haider Hussain, to pay tribute to her distinguished services and support to Bazm-e-Sukhan Arizona. Mrs. Haider Hussain’s daughter, Ms Barka Hussain began the mushera with lighting candle in the loving memory of her mother.

At the outset, Ms. Shaista Kanwal presented ‘prose poems” that drew a wide applause from the audience for her innovation of maturity of ideas. She was followed by another local poet, Ms. Shahnaz Imtiaz:

Ek baa-rish, ek geet pur-aane aur phir te-ra gham
Dar lag-taa hai, rote, rote mar naa jaae-n ham


	Urdu Academy President Tashie Zaheer presides over the grand mushaera.

Mr. Farrukh Abbas amused the audience with his melodious presentation:

ai-n chup raha to qa-bee-le mai-n ho ga-ya bad-naam
Jo kuchh kaha to hu-a sab ko meree baat ka dukh

Mai-n jaan boojh ke haaraa tha baa-ziya-n aksar
To phir ma-naaoo-n bha-la kuyu-n mai-n tujh se maa-t ka dukh

Mr. Tabish Khanzadaa changed the sober mood of the audience with his satiric poetry:

Aqal-man-dee bhi ek haqi-qat hai
Aap ke waaste gha-neemat hai

Mai-n to logo tum-hara leader hoo-n
Aqal kee mujh-ko kiya zuru-rat hai

Jawa-nee ab pura-nee ho-ga-ee hai
Barh-ee lam-bee ka-haa-nee ho-gai hai

Who jis-se ish-q far-maya tha ham ne
Ka-ee bach-cho-n ki na-nee ho-gai hai

“Count Down” poem of Ms. Asifa Nishat was greeted with great enthusiasm:

Me-ree har baa-t kee tar-deed kar-naa
Mu-jhee se phir um,meed kar-naa

Dar-yaft kar li-ya hai ba-sa-ya na-hei-n mu-jhe
Sa,maan rakh diya hai saja-ya na-hein abhee

Kai-saa a-jeeb sh-akhh-s hai u-th kar cha-la-gaya
Bar-baad ho-gaya hai ba-ta-ya nahi-n mujh-e

Mr. Fayyazuddin Saheb, founder of Bazm-e-Sukhan Arizona and a well-known Urdu poet presented his poem “Reunion:”

Dar-d jab ha-d se ba-rh-aa hai to mujeh yaa-d aa-yaa
Zakh-m bhar ne pe khu-da-ya tera qadir ho-na

Dil ne har rang mei-n tan-haa-ee ko meh-boob ki-ya
Uski meh-fil mei,n bhee hona to bazaa-hir hona

Ta-bee-a-too-n mei-n bo-hat in-ki-sar thaa peh-le
Hamaa-re she-hr ke logo-n mei-n piyar thaa peh-le

Na-ai khu-da-oo-n ke aa-ge mei-n jhuk na-hei-n sak-ta
Wo-hee hai jo mera par-war-digaar thaa peh-le

Prof. N. M. Danish was the next to amuse the audience with his melodious voice:

Yaa-dei-n paa-gal kar de-tee-n hai-n, baa-tei-n paa-gal kar de-tee-n hai-n
Cheh-ra hosh urha de-ta hai, yaa-dein-n paa-gal kar de-tee-n hai-n

Mr. Arif Imam-s through provoking ghazals thrilled the audience:

Naf-s kee madd-o-shad ko ba-haal kar-ke bhee
Wo-h khu-sh nah-ein hai hamara ye haal kar-ke bhee

A-jab tha na-sha-e warif-ta-gee-a wasl o-se
Wo-h taza dam ra-haa mujh-ko ni-dhaal kar ke bhee

Finally, the Mushaera President , Mr. Iqbal Zaheer Tashie, was invited to present his ‘kalam’:

Hawa-oun ne mujhe pur-zor kar-diya it-na
Hara to ho na-saka toot kar gira bhee nah-ein

Sa-bhee kee us-pe nigah-ein jamee hoo-ee th-ein Zaheer
Wo-h phool jo ka-bhee gul-daan m-ein saja hee nah-ein

Shi-kayat-ein ho-n, raqa-bate ho-n. kadoo-ra-tein ya adawa-tein ho-n
Yeh sa-b ta-al-l-uq ke sil-sile h-ein, inh-ein mohabbat sha-naas kar-na

The mushaera ended at 2.00 a.m. At the end the mushaera MOC, Mr. Mazhar Siddiqi thanked all the organizers for making the event successes. He particularly thanked Dr. Zubair, Mr. Arshad Shami, Mr. Musharraf Farzand, Mr. Yousuf Bhawad and Mr. Abdul Rahman Khan for their extra efforts.
